In 2013, surfer and musician Cody Lovaas shared a bill with Grammy winner Jason Mraz at the Hill Street Cafe in Oceanside, California, and, at 14 years old, Lovaas' musical life was changed for the very much better. Mraz was impressed enough with the Carlsbad, California teenager's performance and songwriting chops to help jump-start his career.
Now, at 19, Lovaas has a song ("Lie") with more than three-million streams, and his latest single, "Bodies," has already charted more than 230,000 streams. Two tunes, four times platinum (including remixes) — that's a pretty stunning achievement for any musical artist these days.
However, Lovaas wanted to share a more intimate version of "Bodies" exclusively with the Guitar Player audience.
"It was epic to film a stripped-down version of 'Bodies,' says Lovaas. "Just guitar and vocals are what most of my writing sessions and late rehearsal nights sound like, so I wanted to create and share this rendition. We captured this before filming the official video for the song in an empty loft in downtown Los Angeles. I loved the space and it felt perfect for this."
So here's Lovaas with just his voice and battered green Stratocaster...
