On September 26, 1969, Abbey Road — the 11th Beatles album, and the one built from the final sessions in which all four fabs participated — was released.
Although Let It Be [1970] is the "official" final release of the Beatles as a working band, the majority of the tracking sessions for that album were actually completed before John, Paul, George, and Ringo entered the studio for the Abbey Road sessions.
Let It Be was also an album made under all the tensions that would ultimately end the group, and while it had two legends behind the recording console at different times — Glyn Johns and Phil Spector — what the album didn't have was the sophisticated and always nurturing guidance of George Martin. Happily, Martin was back in the producer's chair for Abbey Road.
Although we can't serve up the whole album via YouTube (due to copyright and licensing issues) — so that we can all celebrate what a wonder that album was — we can at least offer a snippet of this Abbey Road documentary...
