Guitar Player columnist, music-technology expert, and solo artist Craig Anderton[1] tells "12 musical short stories" with his acoustic-based new album, Simplicity.

"My last album — 2016's nouveau-psychedelic Neo-[2] —  took four years to complete, and I needed something, well, simple, for my next release," explains Anderton. "I didn’t layer a lot of tracks, so the songs almost mixed themselves. Probably the most important ‘instrument’ was the acoustical treatment. Room sound matters so much with acoustic projects, and although I recorded the acoustic guitars direct, I used the techniques I’d written up for Guitar Player about emulating miked sounds.”

The music on Simplicity is based around acoustic guitar, ukulele, harmonica, acoustic drums, and vocals with accents of electric guitar and synthesizer.

"There are challenges to recording primarily acoustic music in a home studio," says Anderton. "But I think Simplicity shows that it can be done."

Current reviews about the album say:

“Ambitious, honest, but most importantly unique, with an array of instrumentation only an experienced and diverse artist can deliver.”

“Great mixture of musical textures merging traditional instruments and tones with searing electric guitar riffs.”

“An effort that rocks, rolls, and all points in between.”
