Legendary guitar group featuring Johnny A rocks the East Bay on June’s first Friday.
The Yardbirds are one of the most influential guitar bands of all time, so there’s an undeniable nostalgia factor for classics originally cut by Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page, but the modern incarnation is re-invigorated with lead guitarist Johnny A in the lineup. They proved it when GP presented them at Yoshi’s a year ago. That was one of the most rockin’ shows we’ve ever witnessed at the venerable jazz venue!
“My two favorite bands growing up were the Beatles and the Yardbirds,” says Johnny. “I probably wouldn’t be the guitar player I am if it wasn’t for the Yardbirds’ ‘Over Under Sideways Down.’ That band was hugely inspirational and influential for me when I was a kid, and this version of the band seems to have its own life.”
They buzz on the Yardbirds’ current live show is so big that they've been adding extra dates to fulfill demand. This time they’ll be doing a show at Yoshi’s on Thursday, May 31, as well as two shows on Friday, June 1st, which is when GP will be onsite with free magazines, D’Addario goodies, and a Mesa/Boogie pedal raffle.
